Rings of Smoke

Where shall the word be found, where will the word | Resound? Not here, there is not enough silence

moment

the windows are closed,
and the curtains pulled,
and opacity is back in life.

no wind rustles these curtains,
nothing disturbs the old books,
grimy,dusty pages are not opened,
and an ersatz,uneasy peace reigns.

the nights are empty,
and a silent noise fills up the space,
pretentious music hangs in the air,
and the orderly bookshelf assumes a fake dignity.

a fragile life is being lived,
a memorial of happier times
is being built-
and in the vacant air,on waves of music,
poetry is being written in code.

nobody understands this,
strange images bide their time,
lurking in shadows in the cupboard,
and a lethargic life ebbs slowly in this space.

words,and characters,feelings,
and scenes from a drab, defunct drama,
played out on an imaginary stage-
crowd this vacuum,and create-
a delusional montage of pleasure and erotica.
the past is being relived here,
until the alarm sounds to break an unsleepy slumber,
and a never-created moment is lost.

  • About The Line under the Blog Name

The lines generally are from some poem which I have, at some point of time or the other, loved. I do not mean, by including them, to be snotty or pretentious- but I would love it if you could identify the lines, and take much joy if you were interested enough to search them and read the original poems. If not- you can ignore them.
