happy new year

a year walks in,and another goes by,
ushered out on the wings of dark night,
its way lighted by the glittering confetti of diamond stars,
shimmering,shillouetted,vibrating,melting,
like cloud shadows fleeting across waning moons…

night is not a celebration though,
tormented,distraught,mutilated remnant of happy dreams,
and the wind!the wind!
it keeps visiting me this night,
like an unremitting, relentless courtier,
whispering its fingers through my hair,
running its icy lips down my neck,
unseen,stealthy,touching me with its cold lips,it never lets go-
sometimes, like a stalker,
rattling windowpanes in the night when i lock myself in,
imploring to be let in,
pleading in its wheezy,whining language,
the wind is an unpleasant,too persistent lover…

in the distance,
the beautiful,shimmering,sliver and gold lights flutter,
and speak to me in their sibilant voices,
whispering of you,as the night trudges on,
and the immense void is dark as pain,
it is comforting-
the vacuous dark,soothing,
wrapping itself like a blanket around me,
slapping my body like waves of warmth,
and the blinding pain is a friend,
who sits by my bedside,
and tells me stories of you,
in imagined voices tinkling like glass,
gently holding my hand,carrying me through the night,
till the early morning,when-
luckless,friendless,loveless,distraught,shrunken,flawed and incomplete,
curled in my petty vulnerability,
i put myself to sleep.

another year has arrived.

  • About The Line under the Blog Name

    The lines generally are from some poem which I have, at some point of time or the other, loved. I do not mean, by including them, to be snotty or pretentious- but I would love it if you could identify the lines, and take much joy if you were interested enough to search them and read the original poems. If not- you can ignore them.
